Do you know how much your dose was?  Sometimes it is hard to remember visions and some people say they do not get visions.  I don't know if there is any drug for medicine for child abandonment.  Many people have said that they reviewed their life and found parts that were causing problems and after realizing this their life changed. Ibogaine is an addiction interrupter but many people are using it for spiritual reasons or because they don't like the meds that Drs are giving out so they think outta the box.  Sometimes when something is bothering you  you will try anything to end it or get relief like when your desperate.  I understand that but there is also a lot of snake oil out there.  As for Ibogaine it is worth a try but you tried it twice and got dehydrated twice, did they try getting you to drink of giving you an IV or some kind of solution?  Should you decide to try it again be careful, near a hospital, have a good sitter, etc, for it could be a dangerous drug for you.  Did you purge a lot? Wishing you the best,   cinderpath

Hi humbleaspen Have you considered changing your diet before your flood. I am doing a flood in mid November and two weeks before, I plan on eating nothing but whole fruits and veggies and some nuts too, No meats or dairy (especially cheese and creams) No sodas or soft drinks, Just water and pedialyte. I think, the less polluted your body is, the less chance you have of vomiting. I plan on loading up on pedialyte the day before my flood so that way I can avoid dehydration, also plan to not have any meals 12 hrs before and drink water and pedialyte during. I would think that the Iboga is trying to release any toxins in your body, hence the dehydration. Also can you go more into detail about your experience at Iboga House? Did you get any benefit from it? How was the staff? Is Moughenda really 6ft 5? I was considering going to them, but I could not afford the 7500$ for Moughenda or 4500$ for the apprentice special. I am only going to end up spending 637$ doing it at home.

Hello and welcome! I'd like to have a bit more information so that I may be able to better answer some of your questions: What prevented you from achieving 'full flood' in Costa Rica - under the auspices of experienced providers, this should have been (almost) a foregone conclusion...that you would at least achieve flood intensity during your stay there. I would like to learn some specifics about the protocols used. Did you have an experienced sitter with you when you tried this at home? Unless you were vomiting like crazy, or having really bad diarrhea during the episode, there is no reason to assume/presume dehydration - what symptoms did you experience that you equated with dehydration? Iboga/ibogaine can twist up our senses under the influence of heavy doses, even to the point of synesthesia  - this alone could obfuscate the 'real nature' of what you are feeling physically and compounded by trepidation and the fear of 'dehydrating' - you may likely have felt you were experiencing symptoms that either were not there, or were nowhere near as severe as you perceived them.  Iboga is a big commitment, and can be quite frightening - please understand I am not trying to embarrass you or make it sound like you were incautious, I just have little to go on from your post and I have seen many treatments and been through some similar stages myself...Iboga is not like the tropane alkaloids - which are known to dehydrate you, they dry out one's mucous membranes and can be quite uncomfortable and even dangerous - these include things like mandrake, datura, belladonna, all the weird fun stuff that nobody really does on a regular basis. If you hydrate appropriately before ingesting iboga or ibogaine - you will have zero problem s in the way of dehydration, especially dangerous dehydration. Any good facilitator would be able to handle this from the outset. I am glad you are here - a little more data would go a long way in helping us understand more about how this happened with your experiences - I think a few adjustments and you will be just fine for another try once you feel up to it. No need to ever rush working with this material, it is not going anywhere  In brief - yes, many people have used this medicine to great effect when dealing with childhood issues, and abandonment is a very common one. I think if you check out in the requisite pre screening : no major heath issues, no serious mental illnesses that require medication etc...that this is something you may yet get a great deal from. Even  if you have been medicated for certain psychological conditions, this does not automatically preclude you from being treated with iboga. Look forward to learning more, I am playing catch-up, trying to connect with many new members as I have played hookie for a few weeks and find myself waay behind. So, I am glad you are here - thank you for sharing and please feel at home! Peace, Cal

hey guys, thanks for all your responses.. Ok so I will describe my Iboga trip and preparation when I was in Costa Rica with the shaman he got me to stop eating & drinking 6 hours before treatment .. the first treatment went well I was detoxing and vomited a couple of times and the second treatment was horrible I was seeing the people around me moving faster then what they appeared to be and at some points I could hear slurred speech and wasent hearing ppl correctly whenever I closed my eyes, my heart was racing quite fast & I didnt see any visions either (moughenda claims that the second treatment u get a life review well I didnt get any of that!) in the first treatment I saw things and it was rather intriguing for me even tho I was vomiting it was ok ... I feel that I didnt feel safe because I was around a bunch of strangers taking this strong ass dose and there was horrible bwiti music playing in the background I just could not relax and go inward I have done the medicine once when i got back and the experience was so much more beneficial for me with no music playing and being alone with someone checking in on me every now and then ..... to be honest I didnt really do a diet protocol before hand I just did it out of desperation ... if I choose to do it again in the near future I would like to prepare my body properly for it so if there is any guidlines on here please send me a link ........ I think the dehydration was because I actually don't drink much water on a daily basis I'm sure that didnt help it just felt like it was sucking my insides dry and I could not get into the experience any longer when that was happening as I kept getting up to guzzle down water when this was happening!! I don't have any mental illness, what I have is ALOT of accumulated emotional trauma that has not been dealt with and im at the point where I isolate myself, and I have shut down my feelings I won't show ppl my emotions and I don't really experience joy or happiness anymore I am dissociated and living in my head...not connected to myself ... not connecting with ppl I go to classes and do positive things and yeh still nothing so I was hoping iboga would help to resolve some of the things that caused me to become like this...I come from a very dysfunctional family ... abusive and controlling dad and codependent mother so yeh that is my story I used to be addicted to drugs until they caused PTSD for me

Hi Storm, If you check the web site he claims he can cure AIDS and a bunch of other stuff.  Anyone who makes a claim they can cure AIDS must be a powerful shaman, he's the only shaman that can. $7k and 4.5k is a  lot of cash.  Now should you need a treatment they have a special on QVC where you get a treatment not for $7000 or $6000 etc for but $5000 for the Cadillac, aids curing one and $2500 for the Pinto version. Or you can write to me and I will remove the curse on you.  That's where you put  a hard boiled egg and $10,000 in a brown paper bag - got to be brown paper not plastic.  I bury it is a secret place at midnight and let it stay there for two years and dig it up and return your money and egg and you are no longer cursed.  I went to the largest and best Gipsy Curse Removing college in the world and I am an expert.    Best,   cinderpath

Hi cinderpath. Sarcasm? No thanks man. I definitely do not have aids and as for everything else, I think I'll take my chances at home. But thanks for the offer.

Missjess - My initial interpretation of what I am hearing from you, and the 'vibes' I get from reading your posts, is that perhaps the Costa Rica experience was not the appropriate set and setting for you to use this medicine...not everyone needs a 'shaman' or will even benefit from such an atmosphere. I would hazard that it was all a bit too much and simply backfired on you. You did not feel safe, and that's that. You won't get anywhere with this material if that simple imperative is not met before anything else. You did nothing wrong - perhaps your expectations were a bit skewed - but this can happen if we are not VERY careful how we do this and who we do this with. This fellow you worked with in Costa Rica - let me be clear I do not know him,- but having said that, there are some (several in fact) grievances that have been voiced against him and his practices. Roy hit on a few of them: making claims about iboga that are just plain ludicrous - there can sadly be a very fine line between a genuine shaman, and a 'showman'...it takes an experienced person to discern this usually and it is difficult to know for sure until you are already light years from home and totally committed to the process. I will not drag the man's name through the dirt, but the fact is that his reputation is drastically different depending on who you ask - sadly this is not an uncommon feature in the iboga community 'at large' - another reason it is imperative to take your time and research not only the medicine but the provider as well. Ambivalence should never be okay when you are putting so much at risk -one must be CERTAIN. Many Westerners are fascinated by the ritual initiation of Bwiti - and the enthnographic use of the material. I believe they are mistaken to just assume that they will necessarily or automatically get more out of the experience if they go full throttle and put a bone in their nose and dance around a fire all night with face paint on...it may sound like a good idea at the time = but the reality and demands of such an ordeal are far and away vastly removed from the glamour we perceive watching it  on DVD from our lazyboys. The difference between thinking it and doing it is enormous - beyond the pale - and believe me it is not for everyone. Now do not mistake me, I am one of these who has years of experience with entheogens and the ritual/ceremonial use of them - and for what it is worth I DO think that eventually, if one decides to pursue these things further into their fullest potential - that the only way to really GET EVERYTHING they have to offer (I mean every last drop) is to incorporate ritual and to use these things as they use them in their source countries and with the wisdom and blessings of generations who have gone before us...but this is not necessarily a practical or even reasonable effort for a first time out - it may, and I have seen this myself - produce more harm than good, or at the very least turn someone off to a medicine because the experience was not the appropriate one for them at the time. Iboga is, among other things, about breaking habits. This means breaking out of our comfort zones - NOT to the point of abandoning everything to the wind and diving head first into such a culture shock that the very reasons you are there become obscured by apprehensions and deep misgivings about your surroundings...this is counter productive and will in fact wind up giving you results very close to what you have described. Many of these 'Shamans' are self described and they know how to dress, what to say, how to act, the whole charade. I am not dissing everyone who practices this way - not even close - but an iboga healing session is about YOU and YOUR healing....PERIOD. Yet this boomerangs back around to you being responsible for really digging into the research to find out what is right for YOU. Only you know that, and you may illicit help from friends, online forums and many other sources but go with your gut - and use your brain, not always an easy balance I know, I am saying do not be taken in by glamor - more often than not I think that these full blown traditional routes are totally inappropriate for the first timer whether it be for a drug detox or what we call 'psychospiritual'. This is why there are many providers who incorporate a sort of 'hybrid' atmosphere - a milieu that encompasses elements of ritual and tradition while still retaining the creature comforts and some of the clinical amenities Westerners are used to. This gives a good balance to the process, allowing one to let go of their apprehensions and impulses by virtue of feeling secure in their surroundings, while at the same time having a knowledgeable facilitator on hand who can provide attributes of ceremonial use (like offering Bwiti music, and aiding in prayers or meditations befoire during and after, etc) and of course the 'mix' of different possibilities should always be exactly tailored to the individuals needs and desires. If you want to hear Bwiti music - have it. If at any point in the experience you wish to have it turned off, there should NEVER under any circumstances be the slightest hesitation on the part of the 'provider' to do so...this is absurd and obscene. If your facilitator refuses to create and maintain your comfort - he is on an ego trip and has no damned business 'in charge' of someone else's well being. It is indeed arguable that the more 'hardcore' one gets into it - (e.g. - totally roughing it, eating a shit ton of Wood, painting your face and having a loudass village dance around you for a 3 day initiation process) the 'more' one will 'get out of it'. Well, for sure, I say DUH. But not everyone wants to get initiated, or needs to go native to get the benefits of what this medicine can offer. It rankles me when I hear about a 'provider' insisting on including elements that the 'patient (for lack of a better word) wishes to omit, or when this facilitator refuses to do everything in their power to comfort someone who is literally under the gun - in deep iboga trance.  For the most part, if everything is discussed upfront, and trust is established there is little to do except watch over the person undergoing the treatment. The Medicine is the HEALER, not anyone else. The best providers and even shamans know this to be true. Iboga is unique - it lets YOU heal YOU in a way that would not be possible without its influence. Okay I am off my soapbox - to answer your question, I am not currently treating people, but I have a good deal of experience both personally and with treating a variety of people with a wide array of issues/needs. I have treated drug addicts, hardcore addicts that even I thought may be a lost cause, I have also treated a few folks who had decades sober in 12 step recovery groups and just wanted to 'break' some stagnation in their lives, there are many reasons to do this and no one size fits all way to do it. In all fairness now missjess, if you fly to Africa and think you want to go big time with those guys, just be derned sure you have done your homework sister...they are the real thing, the ancient living Bwiti and there ain't no going anywhere but THROUGH that experience Be good to yoiurself, do not blame anyone, learn what you can from this and research research research...like I said, it is not going anywhere, it will be there if/when you are ready for another go. Be well, Cal

Cal, your post is very well put. I have written before that some people seek the ibogaine experience primarily to get off opiates and not necessarily to explore the ritual side. Such people, which includes me, are often having their first experience with ibogaine. I did my first flood in New York with people I didn't know, but who I came to trust without question. I can see someone going into such a strange experience scared to death which is anti-productive to going through the ibogaine flood. I can imagine having  the Bwiti music blaring while undergoing the flood. when I was in New York my sitters and I did a ceremony which I recall as blessing the ibogaine and expressing gratitude for the experience it was about to give. However, when I did the flood I was in a dark quiet room and the sitters came and went quietly. Before the flood they told me everything I was going to experience and how to handle things that might come up. All in all, I was very comfortable and that comfort came mainly from the sitters I had and the atmosphere they created for the experience. I understand and appreciate the spiritual side of ibogaine that many seek and obtain. However, that is a choice and not a requirement. I have been doing a little micro-dosing since my second flood in an effort to explore it a little more. At any rate, I appreciated your post and thought it summed up things very accurately.

Cal VERY NICELY PUT and you did describe exactly how I felt basically UNSAFE especially on my second trip (which was the most important one) I absolutely hated the loud bwiti music in the background and the fact that there was 5 other people around me doing there journeys, I could hear a couple of other people talking out loud on there journey and all I could hear was them and I was totally distracted from my own journey I did not achieve anything, I was neither informed about the physcial affects of what to expect and I started to panic thinking something was not right with my body when in fact it was normal from the medicine I also think that my not feeling safe exacerbated this feeling of a panicy trip.....moughenda also lied on his website saying he had the antidote if there was the be any accidents I was calling out for the antidote on my second trip and he gave me a banana to eat then in the morning he told me there is not antidote ... anyways enough about that experience I would like to do it again eventually I am from australia and I wonder if there is any clinics near me that would provide a safe atmosphere and are not expensive...I can also purchase iboga off of ibogaworld I just dont rlly have anyone I feel I can trust to be my sitter even though I have done it once at home already I don't know about asking the girl I asked before to assist me again.

http://ibogaine.org.nz/ Saw the founder (a lady) speak at the GITA conference in Vancouver earlier this month. Get a great vibe from these guys. Wow, $7500 a pop with 5 others in the same room? Im sure iboga house is great, but at that price, I can understand you wanting maybe some more privacy without the distractions. Myself, I am taking a flood of TA from ibogaworld this friday, with a great friend and sponsor from my recovery program as my sitter. Its for psycho-spiritual reasons and physical cleansing. My first time taking iboga I was at the end of my tether with alcoholism (couldnt live with it or without out it) and everything fell into place such that I was laying  in a guy's converted basement bedroom in Toronto, 350 miles from home, completely at peace, and had an absolutely life changing experience. I guess I had nothing to lose and needed help desperatly, so had no problem giving myself after what I had been through. The visions and experiences were integral to this transformation, as well as the detox. It broke me out of myself to see myself properly, and that it was important to love. The provider, a former heroin addict who told me his story, and the healing powers of the plant, certainly made me feel at ease before hand. So definitely have no fear, it is a medicine, and you will be looked after, and have faith that you will be given what you need, not what you want. Taking iboga the 2nd time, I had my arse kicked hard, but it was what I needed at the time (didnt implement the changes and work I was shown the first time). Anyways, good luck. I recommend TA over HCL for psycho-spiritual journeys myself.

ddraig I would love to know how your Iboga journeys went you said the first 1 was life transforming can you please elaborate? I have found that my experiences were not life changing ... I mean what did Iboga enable you to do after?

lane_drifts· 19 Sept 2026

No problem. Both were transformative. The first one would require an essay. Hmmn, let me see. It showed me things, the truth of things that I guess *some* of it, I deep down intuitively knew. It showed me that there is a force of love out there (God), and that I was more than just merely flesh and bones, actually the flesh and bones was really not who *I* truly am. I saw that I was a very small part of, but very much loved part of, a much larger whole. This dualism of feeling small, yet special was profound for me. It was an out of body experience as well, where I looked back at myself, and was able to truly see and accept who I was. Some of it was very challenging, I saw myself with my head down, backing away from life in various situations(my fears) and was able to see how that is not a good way to act, and other things. I experienced and felt the hurt I gave to a girl I have feelings for, from her perspective, and I realized how she truly has feelings for me. It showed me that I had to be true to myself, to not fear. There were experiences where I was a soul traveling through the birth canal at the point of conception, attaching to a material body, a baby hugging the tree of life, protected by it, seeing the whole world from space(!) and feeling a strong emotional connection to it. There was an african presence too (drums beating and fleeting dancing figures), and much vines and foliage, especially in the 2nd phase. Beautiful. This experience made me see that I had been spiritually sick. I was in a spiritually dire situation that I had created due to choices made from fear. That my decisions had consequences, and I could more clearly see what needed to be done. That we as people are powerful and creative, and with that comes responsibility. I took the iboga again partly for selfish reasons (long story) after taking a drink again (I didnt really want it, but such is alcoholism) as I couldn't muster the courage to resolve a situation I was in. This second experience was much darker (really much darker), and showed me how self centered and pathetically childlike I was, but the 2nd healing phase of the experience felt like an exorcism (I emitted bile and tears into the sink, that was IMO a huge purge). This is what finally got me into a proper 12 step program (AA), and I found that the spiritual principles taught there jived completely with what I learned from iboga. Whereas when I had quit cold turkey back in 2007 for 6 months, I just did not get these principles, and walked out self righteously after 1 meeting. So I know that I need to give back to the universe, as I am blessed to have recovered. My life has turned around, I still have my 'bad' days like everyone and have more work, but I am much less lost at sea, much more comfortable with myself, and growing every day. I have started a new business, using my talents better, being comfortable in my own skin, making better choices. I can definitely see iboga being used for a whole slew of maladies besides addiction.
