Hi Atom, Come on Atom, ever see the smile of the children faces as they open their gifts.  Sure they start advertising before Halloween and it is a commercial thing to a large extent.  But many people do enjoy the kindness of the season.  You see all these nice stories on the news about people helping each other.  You've heard the expression we create our own reality, well why not just like the good and forget the bad about Christmas?  Holidays can cause depression maybe you can find some way in which you can enjoy the holidays. Just an idea,  cinderpath

well, i like celebrating the birth of christ with overeating, getting drunk and into fights with the family in the process. every christmas is the same shit, despite how much we try and make it a cosy family thingie.

I got a flat tire last year on the way to my grand parents house for christmas. Within a couple minutes a family in a mini van pulled up behind me and the husband got out and asked me  it was going, and if he could help, he seen the flat tire, ran to the back of his car got his jack, jacked my car up, and said lets get you back on the road bud. Something I'll never forget, that guy was awesome. Do a little bit to help your fellow man during times of your depression or whatever it may be, maybe it will turn your feelings around. merry christmas

Hi Tyrl, Well overeating, getting drunk and into fights.  Well, let's start with the overeating.  Serve MM and don't tell anyone - then there will be no need to drink and get into fights.  I would say serve the MM and then wait a few hours when everyone is awestruck and coming down then serve the turkey. If that don't work tell them you are going to Florida for a week and let the answering machine take all the calls.  Maybe you could do some volunteer work, like passing out trays of food to the homeless and that, I often wish I had done this earlier, guess I just kept putting it off.  I do a few nights of volunteer a year, not much but it is the best I can do.  Now, the shrooms are gonna cost ya but it might be worth it if it makes everyone peaceful and happy, I don't know if it's worth it only you can answer that.  Now, a guy I knew had a somewhat similar problem, they would come to his house and fight and break stuff and not on only on Christmas.  So four or five guys came over (no chicks) and had a couple of bottles of vodka and by buddy said "Great I wanna make you a new drink and took the two bottles of vodka and mixed it with two large cans of prune juice into a large bowl and said I got a new drink called a cinderpathal Flush and I want ya all to try it.  Well a few tried it and didn't like it and from then on the party was at another guys house. Hope I helped,  cinderpath

I like winter holidays. As sis said, I have the choice to be an asshole, to get drunk, to overeat, to hate. Or not. This western society has very few meaningful rituals anymore. I don't mind winter holidays for giving, for loving, for celebrating.  It's been done around this time for thousands of years. I have chosen not to let the consumerist garbage get to me. I'm not christian, so I don't let that bother me, either. But I do know a lot of people who also so believe in muck of media and conditioning that they also get angry, too. You can decide what this time of the year is for, and you can decide how you feel about it. How cool is that?

Hi Tia, Why not go to NYC and express your for them people need something to pick them up a little.  Then it's off to the airports where them folks who have been there for 3 days while their baggage is missing and have no tooth brush or fresh clothes.  I am sure they could use some nice vibes and cheering up.  It's so nice to see people who celebrate Christmas right into the next week.  Don't tell me about the flights being canceled - take a small plane that those parachute guys use and with all the snow you don't have to worry about landing perfect.  Nice to see someone with the Spirit;  cinderpath

All of you have it right~~~it's a CHOICE we make, how, why and even if we are going to celebrate Christmas~~~it's like, if you go tramping through the same cow pasture every year, don't complain about the shit on your shoes, lol. I simply celebrate the love I am able to give & receive at this time....I see it as a perfect opportunity to show people in my life how valued/loved/appreciated  they are. And, in keeping with my northern European roots, I celebrate the solstice...the return of longer days again, the subtle quickening of the life force beneath the grays & browns & whites of the northern winters. Atom, I DO understand how difficult, depressing & bleak a drunken & bickering family Christmas can be, & sometimes it's hard to get out of it without causing even more nasty feelings to surface. Learning to love & accept, even just to tolerate our families sometimes is probably one of the toughest spiritual challenges in our life! I'm hoping that you will be able to experience some joy over the holidays, and as a couple of members suggested, the very best way to do that is to get out there and help the less fortunate. Knowing you put a smile on a child or a lonely old person's face is a sweet feeling...

no no no! its a farce! im thrilled people us it as a time to be with family and help strangers and i especially love seeing all the stores closed for one brief day, but no! if christmas was once a week it would make much more sense to me (except the human god jesus birthday aspect). the brilliant energy spent shopping, or chanting down the new years ball, for what! suffice to say i hope the 'shift' comes soon, or speeds up, collectively speaking. yes everybodys gotta believe in something, and whatever makes one happy, indeed, but how about everyday about family, everyday about helping strangers, every parking lot a grateful dead scene! yes i know well all emotion is a choice, or reaction to our emotion is a choice. the law of attraction indeed. its just a bummer to see so many still 1700 years later trapped in a reality i see as so totally devaluing to all (wo)mans highest potential. curiosity! creativity! questions questions questions! shift on. shift up. i dont know... happy new year!
