How to post pics
What if you have an iMac w/ a mouse that has no right clicker?
damn someone would ask me that...have to get back with you homeboy
Hey lookie me, pappa Cal, I'm attaching a pdf! Only problem is I had to find a small one. 128K ain't a lot of bytes. Can you see it OK? ~et
Yo Goatboy, When you open the 'Post Reply' window, click the plus sign in front of 'Additional Options'. Then click the browse button and search your HDD for the file -- which must have been saved to your disk first. You won't see it using preview, and you will need to wait after clicking on 'Post' for the file to upload. I thought macs were so easy to use? (hehe) ~e
I see an attachment if thats what you mean? but no other text...to my knowledge we can only post pics from online sources with this template. I could be wrong but it seems we've tried it and couldn't.
test
okay you CAN do it from the HDD but it must be 128k or smaller...PS> tell me how cute my dog is...
Thanks McKnight, you're a worthy mod!
I dunno Cal -- looks to me like your dog has diarrhea. BTW, the size of attachments is configurable. RYFM... Know what PEBCAK means? ~e
I can't see your dog, just you cooking.
Pssst, Tia -- I do believe Mr. Quendi was a-kiddin'. If someone could test M$ Internet Explorer with the attached file? You should be able to open it in IE. This would be a way to pass secret messages to all members since guests cannot see or download attachments. Firefox does enable one to view the message in a firefox tab/window. Txt files should work the same way, but would open by default in Notepad, but could be opened in a browser tab/window. Mac users will have to let me know what happens when you click on the link. ~eon PS -- Cal, when I paste the location, the file is not attached??? Paste an image for me to see how it is done, plz.
OK, I had to add attachments from my computer, then click post, then I copied and pasted the links under the attachments in the post, and put them into img tags, to place them in the post. Couldn't do it without adding the attachments and posting first, though..
Dad & Cal, what browsers are you using? Could be a browser or browser config issue. I have M$ IE forbidden to use the net by my firewall due to its miserable security. Could be that only a God like Cal is currently permitted by SMF config. Cal? Using the 'Insert Image' button, I can paste the link, but not the image. BUT the image at the link location is never fetched by SMF. ~e From SMF: Attachments - If enabled, this feature allows you to attach files to your posts in much the same way as most email clients. You simply have to browse to the relevant file(s) on your computer before clicking Post. Multiple attachments, up to the limit set by the administrator, can be added to a single Post by clicking the 'Additional Attachments' link. You can delete your attachment(s) or add more by modifying your post, but please note that the permitted file types and sizes are set by the Forum administrator. Some forums may display image attachments inline with the Post or show them as thumbnails below the post. Ray made the following comment on March 12, 2009, 04:01:42 PM: Well, I'd like to insert an image, in my case, the BB code shows fine () but I don't find out how to link it to an image I'm uploading as an attachment. Also I found out that there is no actual uploading, after posting the attachment's name appears under the post, however it also says 0Kb. Actually I would just like to insert the images into the post. Jade made the following comment on March 19, 2009, 09:32:37 PM: You need a mod for that, search the customise site for "attachment" As for the 0KB, you may need to contact your host or open a support topic on the community
I was using Firefox, but am now using google chrome, and I'll do it again. Basically I click additional options, browse for the photo, then click open. When it loads up, I click post, then I go to the link at the bottom of the picture where the attachments are in the post, I click copy the link location. Then I click modify, go back in and click the insert image tab, then I put the link between the img tags to place it where I want in the post..
you should be able to see my dog - its on my first post...wtf. i have a headache and am shaky from a night of certain tea which i may or may not ever do again. may i get back with you all on this? I'm using firefox latset version - ill look around in the admin and see if theres anything i can twaek to help smooth this over.
Here is what I think is happening. Dad's inline image is working only because it is referencing an image file that is stored on pk's server. Either (the SMF config or codebase) OR (pk's server config) OR (both) is preventing images from being fetched from anywhere else but the Ebo Forum server. Unless the image is stored locally, every time a member opens a page with an external link (i.e. one from the web) it will slow the page and create more network traffic. On the other hand, having images, pdfs, or any other files stored locally requires disk space. You can store some of the images all the time, and you can store all of the images some of the time, but you can't store all of the images all of the time -- unless you have a BFHDD (B = Big, HDD = Hard Disk Drive, you can guess what F = ). Me, I like the in-line images -- it would be nice if we didn't have to go through the extra step of attaching them, and we don't need the additional thumbnail that the workaround requires. I also think being able to attach reference pdfs, jpegs, etc. makes sense for the Forum's intention to provide information and assistance. 128K is pretty small for that, though -- the pdf I attached was the smallest one of many that I have archived. Given the choice of one or the other, I would go for attachments, since images can be done that way, too. I do believe that this is pk's call. ~et PS -- Oh, now I see your dog. I thought you were were slyly referring to the picture with the brown stuff pouring out. Hope I didn't offend your dog! What's his mame? ~e
