Iboga and a 5ht2a antagonist.

Hey everyone I wanted to do a large dose of Iboga for spiritual/depression reasons. I Have taken a few psychedelics but none in really strong doses except for a time when I took 5meo-dmt inter-nasally and coming up on that freaked me out. I was terrified. Not because of what was happening, but because of not being in control and the unknown of what could potentially happen. I finally reached a certain point and let go and at that point it time almost stopped and it became blissful. I want to do an extract of the iboga I have but have read about some really intense experiences people having and I would feel more comfortable if I knew that i had a way out if I happen to be caught in my own hell by using a 5ht2a antagonist. There is one that i read about that is really good for this purpose that i don't recall at the moment. Can this potentially be a dangerous combination? If so is there something else that could be used in place of a 5ht2a antagonist that can ease a difficult iboga trip? If i did happen to go through something extremely intense I would most likely just stick through it and learn from it but i would feel more comfortable dosing if I knew I had a way out.  And I was thinking that this could be a way for someone not willing to have a strong psychedelic experience and still get the benefits of increased GDNF.

Welcome copperleaf (interesting choice of handle...!) My gut reaction when I read your post is that you're not ready for this. If you're already planning your escape that's a red flag to me. That's not to say that there won't be a time when you will be ready but it's definitely not now. It's a good sign that you asked first instead of just jumping into it as some people have done. In the book Iboga The Visionary Root of African Shamanism, there is mention of an antidote for people who have taken took much and might die but the antidote itself is dangerous. If I were you, I'd spend some more time reading other people's experiences - particularly those from people who had/have depression and others who had various mental issues. Do a search on this forum for depression, mental issues and microdosing and you'll be presented with a wealth of information. Tread carefully my friend

Hi copperleaf, I  would have to agree with entheo here.  Do a lot more research.  Personally, I don't think you would have a "bad trip" with Iboga, not like with other entheogens,  I have had mostly beautiful experiences with Iboga, besides my detox flood and that was just plain bizarre,  however I think you should read a lot more.  If you aren't on any meds, microdosing could help with depression.  But read, read and read some more.  I researched for almost a year before flooding and I could have done a lot more.  roxine

Thank you warmclover and roxine for the replies. I will do more research and report back.  To prepare myself I will do more meditation. I used to meditate a lot more and my current lack of it is definitely leaving me without proper tools for my healing and betterment. The mind is very strong and resistant to change. I will also use a more benign entheogen mescaline via the achuma cactus. I started to micro dose a little while ago and while I did feel some positive effects, It seemed It was also effecting my cognition. I couldn't concentrate well and would be a little spaced out. Perhaps I was taking too much.

~ Welcome copperleaf!   Smart post - good to ask around before leaping head first in to anything like this... I must agree with lala and entheo, they give sterling advice....To my absolutely uncertain but well experienced knowledge there isn't anything to put the brakes on a rough trip, never mind ejecting. You are in it to win it like it or no, so be ready to be totally unready for anything. If your concern is, well...dying, then you're probably like many of us here: weighing the pros and cons, trying to calculate YOUR calculated risk potential, etc. If folks were dropping like flies nobody would be talking about any of this, but it also does have an apparent mortality rate - unusual for traditional plant teachers...   If flooding is a curiosity - follow said advice and read up, ask questions and talk to as many people as you can, not just here but all over. It is the best kept secret that everyone knows about. Get a medical workup - EKG, CBC, and check any meds/supplements for contraindications. These are good starting points. Re: microdosing - it can and eventually will affect cognition, repeated dosing usually the culprit since, by definition a microdose is sub psychoactive. So either you shot a little too high or did it a little longer than intended maybe? Usually harmless side effects but can be irritating and potentially unsafe especially driving or operating things that can kill you.   And Achuma, eh? 'Careful with that axe, Eugene'  EVERYTHING bites dude, not trying to scare you or rain on your parade, but that's a Big One - better research it thoroughly. It is a wonderful Medicine and delicious trip - but this cactus has some MAO properties and of all the cacti in that family it is I believe - the only one. If you are on any RX's - particularly antidepressants, you may want to look at Pachanoi or Peruvianis instead. Thanks for being here and showing good questions, Cal

Yes perhaps I dosed to high. I have done a small dose of achuma and it was wonderful, but I could see how a higher dose could be very powerful.  I have some 4-aco-dmt as well.
