in times of light fire is water
after twelve years, the time is approaching for myself, and my brother calaquendi
to make a pilgrimage to see my favorite band ever.
neurosis.
this band has held me in a complete thrall since the first time i ever heard of them
or saw them live,in tijuana mexico in 1991.
this bands music, character, and integrity have played a huge part in my life, and have been
a source of strength, and catharsis for me over the years, and post flood it has become something
i cant really express with words.
this being said,i need to say that, this bands music certainly isnt for everyone.
that is probably a huge understatement.....
i love it.
it is primal, fire in the belly warrior music.
beautiful,awesome,frightening,sometimes overwhelming.like life.
anyway,i want to share first a poem that was included with their last album, that resonates, and captures in a way,
the sentiment, and ideas behind their music.
i would rather be ash than dust
i would rather that my spark should burn out
in a brilliant blaze, than it should be stifled by dry rot.
i would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow,
than a sleepy and permanent planet.
the function of man is to live, not to exist.
i shall not waste my days trying to prolong them.
i shall use my time.

some of the bands lyrics.....
"away"
for me,this song is beautiful in its message...even more so after my flood in 05
it is also where i took my signature from....
cease this long,long rest
wake and risk a foul weakness to live
when it all comes down
watch the smoke and bury the past again
sit and think what will come
raise your fears and cast them all away
from the album "times of grace"
i realize this thread is getting long, and if you have read what i have shared as dear to me,i thank you.
i will end with what is possibly my favorite song by this band,it resonates with me in a way that is simply too much.
"a season in the sky"
i had a vision last night,my god was glowing
there was another bridge on fire
and the last wrecks were counted
the sky opened and the blood flowed
a distant cancerous season was upon me
i had a hook in my back and a light to guide me
my words were useless again
the leftovers were playing with my memories of love
i screamed at my god and he let me go
i drifted silently to the desert and began to pray
i came to a pile of ashes and sifted through it looking for teeth
a snake spoke through me again
but i could not heal their wounds
i am searching for the old spirit of war
with my rough hands and a sharp knife
i need something to cut into so that my god can see me again
to be right again
to see my shadow alone
to get back to the hook
and let the light burn in my soul
all i've seen walking through the fire
the figures in my dreams
running back to me
in a psychic scar
as i ride to the dawn
if you read all this way, thank you for letting me share something that is sacred and special to me.
