Boy I love drum and bass too! Jungle, baby! Dieselboy is the MAN...check out 'Project Human', it's a whole other thing...completely dismantling - severe and heavy jungle.

The only Dnb I've heard that I liked was Pendulum, Optical, Noisia (I love riduculously complex stuff), but haven't gotten into the genre as a whole. Charming, beautiful, majestic, meloncholy, melodic electronic music Mosaik - Leandi http://music.mosaik.se/album/leandi Let me know if you like it too.  lynnet P.S.  Tetsu Inoue - Organic Cloud is an epic ambient album, I'd always wanted to go on a trip with this one.  If you need it I can upload to a file sharing site, I think it is out of print still.

ill bite.. im all grateful dead, especially when psychedlicized, but iboga is opening me up i like bwiti thru the visions, followed by backbeat (?) free unitepretable international music (sigor ros, seu gorge, gregorian chant, tibetin flutes and throats, etc) followed by lagre amounts of jerry garcias guitar as my mood soars and soars, there are two types of people in the world, and im grapefruit fred a friend of mine (and yours cal) played some mckenna lectures my last time and i loved it, he speaks our language, id read his books, but the lectures... the lectures.. mmm..

Wow, why did it take me so long to see this thread? I love everything, literally everything... Classical, rock, blues, rap and hip-hop, grime rap.. But I have to be honest.. I've always loved all kinds of electronica: house, trance, jungle, DnB, etc.... but lately.. what's been blowing my mind is this new early 2010-present dubstep. "Let the bass, let the bass make you live!" BOOOOOOOOM!! WHOMP WHOMP!! I've been going to so many raves lately, seeing so many great DJ's... Currently BLOWING my mind: Skrillex Bassnectar Flux Pavillion but of course, those who will always blow my mind: Shpongle Infected Mushroom ------------------------ Viva electronica!

oh how i miss those days. well,i dont miss everything about them,i was a sick puppy back then. but man,there were some beautiful amazing times..... hey digital,what are the parties like these days....is the vibe there? the real parties have been long gone in my parts for years now. mine and calaquendis rave days were in the nineties.... man,it was raw back then....the midwest scene in its prime was just primal man. the best of detroit,and chicago every weekend.....i also destroyed a dance floor or two in my days as a dj......ahhh....im gonna get a tear in my eye! i realized i am digressing from the thread.... music i enjoy.... old school midwest techno,drum and bass,good ambient... plastikman! future sound of london diesleboy shpongle speedy j me i also love some metal and othe stuff.. NEUROSIS(for me the best band ever...ymmv!) mastodon pink floyd tool perfect circle dead can dance led zeppelin iron maiden black sabbath i could go on......

luckylynx· 03 Aug 2026

i feel lucky to have been a part of that scene, in the mid 90's the rave scene in cali was something to behold, one party began immediately after the next day and night, i dont know if this is how it still works, but all these parties were all 'illegal' gatherings though little expense was spared in production, usually broken up at some point, but without the scary police state element dead tour brought at that point.. oh to be young and high on extacy watching the sun set over the pacific in a giant smoosh pile to a soundtrack provided by orbital... oh to be here now with my baby daughter on my lap looking out over the hills this magestic morning to a soundtrack provided by burning spear... a couple wonderful podcasts to share: 'the psychedelic salon' is lectures on all things consciousness, and 'radio 360 with dj darkhorse' is marvelous musical mixes vavar that is a fantastic dark star, dark star is tattooed down my leg, and is my youngest daughters middle name (~);}

Ahhhh you old school ravers :-D  From what I know, I'm sure I would have loved the scene back then.. It's still pretty amazing, though it's changed a lot in the last year or so. I started hitting raves in Chicago when they finally brought the scene back around 2005. It was beautiful then.. The raves weren't exactly illegal, because after the huge crack down in chicago in 2001, promoters figured out it's actually a lot easier to just get a few permits and hire off-duty police officers for security, so the parties never got busted up. So while not illegal, they were still "underground". That's what I loved.. If you didn't know somebody, they were very hard to find out about.. One of the last legit raves I went to had 3 "bounces" before you found out where it was at.. It worked like this. They advertise the date and time of the rave, and what DJs would be there, but not the location. To find out where it's at you have to get a phone number from someone involved in setting it up. The phone number wasn't turned on until about 2 hours before the rave started, and it was a recording that told you where to go for the first bounce. "Goto grammaphone records downtown, tell them you want your ticket for 'source'". Or something like that. So off you go to grammaphone, pick up your ticket, then they say "Ok, now take this ticket over to Beatniks and trade it for your wristband." So you do that, then the guys at Beatniks tell you "Ok, now take the blue line over to the corner of Southport and Addison in Wrigleyville and wait on the corner." And you're like "uhhh.... ok." You get there and see about 20 little raver kids all waiting on the corner, and then after awhile a payphone down the street starts to ring and everyone runs down to it to answer it, and when you pick up the voice on the other end will say "1732 Kedzie" and hang up. How about THAT shit?!? Those my friends were raves! Since they were so hard to find, pretty much everyone there was true to the scene. Very PLUR :-D (Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect) I never saw any fights, nothing but hugs and good vibes, no one ever got in trouble, plenty of drugs, even free balloons for nitrous sometimes. They were amazing times. They went until the sun came up, and then the after party started and went until everyone finally passed out. Now today, things are different.. There are two things that have changed the scene. The first is American dubstep. It's blown up in popularity. Electronica is reaching such a wide audience now, even college kids want to go to dubstep shows. So raves are attracting a much wider audience. I remember when I first started going to these raves, and they had sooo many people there, and not everyone was dressed up like a clown! It was weird to see normal kids and college kids around there.. That's when the vibe started to wane a little bit, but not much.. More drugs, more bogus drugs, and some people getting busted for selling. But what has finally and permanently changed the rave scene.. Is Facebook. Now I get an invitation through Facebook for a rave at least once a day. These aren't really "raves" anymore. There is no underground element. The atmosphere hasn't taken that big of a dive, it's still very loving and friendly. But it feels a little different.. It's good and bad. I miss the underground element. It really added to the feeling of such a tight-knit community. But there are sooo many more raves now, and rave culture is really big in college towns. So for better or worse, things are different now, but I still love it!

Before i brokedown and put on huge amounts of weight and when lived a normal'ish/functioning life, (dissociated and oblivious) i enjoyed some great raves in 1996-1999. I was into happy hardcore at the time, when it was AMAZING!  Some of the classics that bring back great memories:-                                      - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOHBEJ4sCBs&playnext=1&list=PL2ED6B4018796B75E                                                                                   -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hl9P4IqYN2A                                                                                   - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9mLeUMEYZg&feature=related                                                                                   - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBQmV2zZK5o                                                                                   -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sh3e2XkqwqA&feature=related                                                                                   - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt-Y2SIb3fE&feature=related                                                                                   -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv8tnGquslw&feature=related                                                                                   -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PtRhZp86rg&feature=related Force and styles created some amazing music! Speaking of best concerts.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1LyHLAYqko That's a view from the balcony of Skrillex dropping a new, unreleased track at what was one of the best shows I've been to in my entire life... And coming from a guy who goes to dubstep shows twice a week sometimes, that's saying quite a bit. If you guys can enjoy that track, and if the drop isn't too filthy for you ;-) , then here's my other favorite Skrillex tracks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaIZ0mUJzr0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uzxa1vlk43Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMdXOqq3WL4

I once had a pretty good LSA trip, and sat in front of my pc and played this over and over and over again. The video goes so well with the music. I felt like i was there, in 1946 (or whenever it was). Its amazing and creepy, and a probably a whole load of words i dont even know or use. Its now probably my most listened to song ever, and will continue to be i think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6yokbJ23KY

Summercamp is heck of a lot closer for me than Bonnaroo, and I see that Bela Fleck & the Flecktones will be there this year. I've been to a lot of Phish shows, but I noticed that there are plenty of Phish tickets available for venues that sold out quickly in past years. Could be because of the economy or it could be that Trey's just going to have to work a little harder to get more Phish fans on board.

After the split most of my friends that used to be die-hard haven't just been following them like they used to.. At least that's how it seems to me.. And I've been surprised that a lot of my friends who used to goto camp for Widespread or Moe, this year the reasons they're going are Bassnectar, Skrillex, and EOTO.. Dubstep has gotten so crazy popular where I'm at.. At a major bar in Champaign (huge college town here, with U of I), they have dubstep masquerades once or twice a month, and now every wednesday has become "wompdown wednesday".. maybe it's just where i'm at, but electronica has really blown up.

cop shoot cop. can't stop since i stumbled upon them. ambulence song 3 AM incident hung again I guess I'll just get hung again tonight. It's the best way that I know to turn off the lights. I'll get reacquainted with the floor. It's like a joke you've heard before Except that you was laughing the other night. The lights are coming on over the Williamsburg. The trains sure take it slow over that bridge. Factory girls are in the street, But I just want something to eat And I don't think that they could scratch that itch. I don't know why I try. Another day, another lie. It's just like sticking needles in your eye. You get that sinking feeling when you're sunk. You pack your worries up inside a metal trunk. I guess I just need some time to think. I swear that I'd give up the drink If I could find a better way to get drunk. I don't know why I try. Another day, another lie. It's just like sticking needles in your eye. NYC always bred the rawest.

I haven't been to any shows of any kind for a good long time, but I tune into the jam band station on xmradio fairly often. Anyway I've come to really like the band Lotus. Have any of you been to one of their shows? Looks like another reason to go to Summer Camp Festival (if I can make that happen). Here's the youtube to "Spirtualize." He was a man with extreme anorexia nervosa and was about 45 kilo in weight. He also had borderline syndrome and had been in and out of mental hospitals for many years. It was very hard to persuade him to participate in the :STALAGGH: projekt. After the recording he said that doing some of the vocals was the best therapy he ever had. He killed himself a few months after the recording of Projekt Nihil. We used a drawing by him on the inside of the digi-pack edition of Projekt Nihil.

Damn these young wippersnappers, going to raves, using drugs, smoking this and smoking that.  Well I'll tell you - no one has mentioned the Rolling Rocks, with Rick Jagger and Keith something and them guys, yeah the Greatest rock and roll band of all time.  What's wrong with Rod Stewart, The Jefferson Airplane, The Doors (caution: do not listen to The Doors while on acid - that's what started the Manson thing back in '69), The Eagles and them guys? Disco was a communist plot because American were having too much fun with rock and roll.  Damn kids today would know the difference between rock and roll and Rock and Rye which is a soda pop.  Then they came out with punk rock and rap and hip hop and all that stuff, no wonder there are shootings and the crime rate is soaring.  No wonder one third of the people are overweight and diabetes is soaring.  We didn't have those problems in the 60s because when were were young we had good old rock and roll.  Yeah, thke those old records off the shelf, I'll sit here and listen by myself, give me that old time rock and roll.  Back in the days where you could see Elton John for $5 at the Eastown Theater in the once Great city of Detroit. That's ok, I try and think positive and there is hope for your generation, just don't bet on it.   cinderpath

Come on now Roy, times be a changin' and not everybody shares the same tastes in music.  I myself happen to love most of the bands that you mention and I am originally from the metro Detroit area.  I grew up on Bob Seger, The Eagles, Neil Young and so many more since this is what my parents listened to.  Throughout the years I have learned to appreciate many genres including hip hop, alternative, techno/trance and just about everything but country.  I have tried with the country, but just can't do it.  For me the flavor of the day is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdiABALvPxc

Hi Light, I'm one of the guys who can't get out of the 60s.  I got out of HS in 69 and the sixties lasted all the way to the 70s and then it seems the crack and shootings started in the 80s.  See, the 60s were like the roaring 20s only instead of booze we had much better things, yeah I see ya smiling, you know what I mean.  In the 60s I had a car and got around and gas was twenty-five cents a gallon and you could fix cars yourself.  Yeah, the heroin was good and I was a sick puppy too.  Guess you could say they were the best of times and the worst of times.  People were marching to end the Vietnam war, minorities wanted equal rights and women wanted equal pay for equal work and they thought burning their bra would help, there were marches to Washington, a guy called Agnew and a guy called Nixon and another guy called Johnson and another guy called Carter didn't know hot to end a war or run the economy.  Basically nothing has changed politicians are all the same.  Yeah, I know your not suppose to like your dads or grandads music.  Most people, every generation, has their own music and lingo.  Can ya dig it Daddy O??  If not talk to your people and see if ya can find some good acid for good acid is... well ..... like the cats pajamas.  BTW what's a nice guy like you doing on a forum like this??  Ok, that came from a Bogart movie, I tried that line talking to some chicks in a bar once.  I thought it was an old pic and they would not have seen it but I think they did for I could tell by the look on their face they heard that line before. Oh talking about music and bass which is not to be confused a fish call Bass.  And no one mentioned the Sax, damn kids today want to see guys smash their guitars and crazy stuff.  Now Lady Gaga and Beyonce I don't know much about their music, and I do respect her butt I love to watch them strut. Bee Coo,   cinderpath

Hm, so no love to Nightwish or any other Symphonic Metal?  Hard to pick a favorite by them, but can be really cool under the right state of mind.   Besides that, noticed someone mentioned Pink Floyd, a close second.    Also noted the comment by GratefulDad about Phish....  Interesting to finally meet a deadhead.  I have known a phish head (if that term can be given without offending) for about a year and he convinced me to despise it by playing every single time he had a free moment around me.  Not to say that it pushed me towards Grateful Dead, but really cannot appreciate Phish at all any more.

That song is said to have been inspired by Khalil Gibran's The Prophet, which Staley happened to be reading at the time.  It makes perfect sense given the lyrics.  This is worth a read if you haven't already: http://www.katsandogz.com/gibran.html
