Opiate Conversion Calculator
That's one of the calculators I used to use.. But just a fair warning.. When converting a few substances, I noticed some differences when uses different calculators, and different charts, one of which was out of my physicians desk reference. So I think that calculator may be slightly off for certain substances. The ones I notices discrepancies on were: Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Hydromorphone, and Methadone. Then again, for all I know, that calculator could be right and the others could be wrong, but either way, stay safe.
Thanks for you comment, digital. I think that having a way for people approaching iboga treatment to convert opiate dosages is a good thing to have here on the Forum. Can you recommend another calculator that you like? Or an accurate and complete table? Yikes! What were they thinking? Pardon me if this is a stoopid question, sassy, but why didn't you just cut the pills in half? You mentioned the same sort of thing when describing your builder friend. I'm wondering if there's something about meth that I have not heard about... ~et
Well, another calculator I have used in the past is.. http://www.medcalc.com/narcotics.html But as far as a better or complete one.. I don't know what is right to be honest. There is a good chart here http://pharmacy.uams.edu/formulary/NARC_CONV_CHART.htm Although, when it came down to it, and I wanted to be as sure as possible, in the past I always used this chart http://algosresearch.org/PracticeTools/NarcoticCalculator.html In my opinion, I think that last chart is the most accurate, but that's only based off of personal experience. If you do a comparison between those charts, and especially the calculators, you'll notice how steep some of the differences are. And then if you take into account how different peoples bodies and individual reactions are, you see how messy trying to calculate tolerance/conversion can be. So remember, I'm not a doctor, and all my info is based off of personal experience. Know your substance, know the chemistry as best as possible, but most importantly, start small and know your own body.
Interesting...according to this calculator, when they put me on methadone from my then dosage of 140mg oxy....I should have only been put on a dosage of 21mg methadone. Instead they started me at 50mg, which knocked me out so badly I asked for a lower dose & instead of that they raised it to 60mg. I was a zombie & begged to have the dosage lowered again, only to have them then raise it yet once again to 70mg!!! At that dosage my life fell totally apart...I was unable to stay awake long enough to even have a life...makes me wonder what they based their dosage decisions on! Switching opiates is very tricky & certainly not a one size fits all proposition. Seems no one really knows because as you pointed out, each conversion calculator gives you different numbers. It's all so individual....I bet that 20mg methadone would have been more than enough for me because I was SO sensitive to that drug...it boggles my mind when I read about people who are on 300 & more mgs of it! And then, 14 months later when my doctor allowed me to go back to oxys because of the severe side effects I had from the meth, he gave me just 80mg oxy, which turned out to be not even close to what I needed at that point & caused me to have severe withdrawals. Makes me wonder where he got those numbers from....certainly not from THIS calculator!
i worked at a methadone clinic 3 years,we added our orange pills to tang.only after a person had been theren a long time did we give them take homes over weekend, all clinics have different rules-koko
I was with a friend who got meth from someone getting orange solution from a clinic, I wonder how she smuggled it out... Somehow, I just could not picture sassy going to a methadone clinic... ~et
Eon wrote: "Somehow, I just could not picture sassy going to a methadone clinic..." Haha, neither could I nor anyone I knew! But that sentence was imposed on me when I somehow lost or misplaced my month's supply of oxys during the hectic move from up north to this city a few years ago. Yeah, that actually happened..I arrived here with only 2 days worth of pills left in my little weekly organizer...I couldn't find the rest anywhere. It had been quite the "Ma & Pa Kettle" kind of move, with 4 older trucks & vans overloaded with stuff & one of them broke down & needed to be replaced along the way so we had to move all the contents to yet another older truck I bought. It took us 3 days to get here, I was exhausted from trying to micromanage the drivers & the vehicles...I get extremely maxine_climbs mentally when stressed like that and I had NO memory whatsoever of where I stashed the rest of the pills, none. I didn't realize I was in trouble until my sister, who is an ER nurse, told me that they get people coming into the ER all the time saying that they had lost their scripts or had them stolen, etc. She said that no one was going to believe me...esp. since no one here knew me & I didn't even have a doctor here yet. When I started getting very sick during the second day of no opiates I went to the ER but didn't even bother telling them what had happened. The attending physician looked up my prescription records, came back and practically THREW an envelope with 3 lousy pills in it and pointed her finger at me & said," YOU"VE been ABUSING those!!" It turned out to be impossible to find any doctor here who would accept a new patient who was opiate dependent & not one walk in clinic would write for opiates either. I was absolutely stunned to find myself in this position. I ended up going cold turkey in my older van parked in my sister's driveway, with just a porta-potty and no running water (my suite there had yet to be built) in the heat of summer. Hideous. When I found myself still unable to function after 3 weeks & my sister getting very annoyed because I wasn't able to hold up my end of the deal we'd made...that I help build the suite....she suggested trying methadone, as that was the only opiate available to someone in my position. I knew nothing about kratom or pods & had never done anything like scoring on the street, so I went for it, and just like that I went from being a legitimate chronic pain patient to being labelled an addict. It was (and is!) that easy!!! The clinics here don't give you pills, they give the methadone to you in orange tang, and you have to go drink it every morning witnessed by one of the pharmacists there. After a month they start giving you take home doses twice a week but you are still witnessed drinking your dose twice a week so it's impossible to lower your dose, though I kept on trying. Nice system...talk about humiliating...there was nothing private about it. the other customers could all see us methadone junkies lined up & drinking our juice.... Eon, they gave us the "juice" in small plastic bottles, so that's probably how your friend smuggled them out.
i worked at that clinic in the early 80's,now the state im in has gone methadone maintenance, and they like their profit of junkies,so unless you turn up with piles of dirty urines-youre there for life.these newer clinics give way more take homes nowadays.hey, those converters dont use tramadol (or kratom, lol),guess cause its so lame-koko
Ha, there's nothing "lame" about kratom extracts like UEI or FST...I'd LOVE to see someone try to do a conversion with those! Yeah, that's how the methadone clinics here work too, you're on it for life. No counselling, no therapy, no nothing except "drink your juice & shut up", & if you have ANY complaints they just raise your dosage & that definitely shuts 'em up! I felt as if I were living in some futuristic sci-fi movie where much of the populace was being gradually drugged into a state of agreeable submissiveness, able only to perform the most mindless jobs. Friggin' horror show. Thanks for the links, Digital, gonna go check them out!
"I went from being a legitimate chronic pain patient to being labeled an addict." sassy -- It is a truly sad thing what efforts to demonize drugs and addicts has done to many. Even though I know better, it is still difficult at time to keep moving against the current of prejudice and ignorance. My own struggles show that those who have never fought the current have little chance of seeing clearly. "Know your substance, know the chemistry as best as possible, but most importantly, start small and know your own body." digital -- Some excellent advice! Thanks for the links! ~et
im not sure i think the trend towards putting opiate dependant ppl on suboxone is much better.sure if youve consigned yourself to reaining on it for life, but if you ever plan to be on it a while & stop-yikes!theyre in for a surprise! my friend in san francisco got on sub as part of a research study there ,and shes on 32mg/day,and she is miserable.she says nothing has changed, shes on sub rather than the online stuff, but her life still sucks.and that label for life stuff-hideously judgemental!-koko
Word koko - damn 32mg?! That's a huge dose of suboxone, Jesus! A slow and steady titration until you get to about 8mg (or less) would be ideal, then you could start to 'feel' SAO's. At least that's how it worked for me... There was a column on the front page of our newspaper here about Suboxone - the premise was all about money (big fucking shocker) and how the State medicaid was basically 'wasting' money on this 'new and expensive' drug for addicts...total horseshit. I hate Suboxone but it is a good drug for what it does. Some people do not mind being on something, and for those folks I think sub is way better than methadone, at least you can drive a fucking car on buprenorphine. I don't know... all that shit pisses me off, especially when the powers that be debate the fiscal validity of 'treating' addicts - lumping the poor souls suffering from addiction into some untermentch category - it makes me sick. Addiction knows no prejudice - even THESE assholes (the lawmakers, judges and fucking cops) are not immune - same for all the 'experts' and dildos on their medical panel highhorses...ugh. sorry for the rant, shit just gets to me man...
Having been on both suboxone and methadone before, I agree with you cal that suboxone is much better at what it's meant to be used for.. Yeah you get addicted to both, but for me, the 32mg suboxone daily was much easier to get off than 120mg methadone daily. The 32mg kick was even easier than a time when I was only taking 30mg methadone daily. And I did the 32mg suboxone kick cold fucking turkey in a jail cell. And the way my doctor explained it to me, buprenorphine has a ceiling tolerance threshold. They don't prescribe people more than 32mg daily because anything more than that your body just doesn't seem to respond to. And trust me I tried.. I took almost 100mg of my suboxone, testing it to see if it would get me high, and it didn't feel any different than if I had just taken my usual daily dose. Of course this was over 3 years ago, so maybe the way they prescribe suboxone/subutex has changed.. but that's what my doctor told me, and I think I remember reading some stuff about it in threads over on bluelight.
